The Memory Manors
A highly trained and compassionate care-giving team is the heart and soul of our dementia care program. Every staff member undergoes specialized training to understand dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Friendly, non judgmental approaches to alleviate agitation, anger, and anxiety are incorporated into our regular care routines.
The Manors are staffed 24 hours a day with a ratio of staff to residents that exceeds that found in most special care homes. A variety of structured programs take place daily including arts, music, dance, crafts, table games, reminiscing, word and number games, and exercise, all designed to enhance cognitive function.
Each building has been purposefully designed to accommodate a small number of residents to contribute to a feeling of comfort and calmness (16 rooms with semi-private accommodations as needed).
Residents are encouraged to furnish their room with personal mementos to create their new home. The shared living and dining spaces are decorated in soft tones to provide a calming atmosphere. The secure garden provides a safe place for walking, outdoor activities, and to enjoy fresh air.
St. John’s recognizes that dementia and Alzheimer's impacts the entire family. The program includes assisting family members with the challenges of this disease. An Alzheimer’s Support Group and the more social Alzheimer’s Café support families in their interactions with loved ones.
